Mobile device management is essential to employee productivity and an organization’s ability to be competitive. With so many moving parts, managing mobility can be chaotic without the right tools and processes in place. Earlier this week, we hosted a session during Calero World Online that addressed some of the challenges and trends in enterprise mobility:
So how can you take control of your mobility program to address some of these challenges? How do you know if employees are adhering to your mobile policy? How can you simplify and automate processes to free up valuable IT resources, while ensuring you have the tools to monitor spend and usage? While this isn’t a comprehensive list, here are a few things to consider and help you get started.
Mobile policy acknowledgement. According to AOTMP, 60% of organizations believe that developing policies is one of the most significant challenges to managing employee-owned devices. And, we’ve seen it first hand in working with our clients and understand the importance. Policy acknowledgement should be a prominent part of your mobile portal. As a best practice, end users should be asked to acknowledge and accept your mobile policy (including subsequent policy updates) before taking any action within the portal. This is one of the first steps to help you enforce compliance. Best in class solutions typically have reporting capabilities to help you to see when users last accessed and acknowledged the policy to properly manage and measure. If you don’t have a mobile policy in place, we will gladly work with you to develop one.
Gain greater control over the procurement process. Through automation, you can streamline purchasing, provisioning and device activation with integration direct into your existing purchasing system, or by allowing self-service access through a mobile portal. Calero offers the ability to configure your portal so that it can support corporate liable devices, BYOD, or both. Flexible mobile catalogs can be set up based upon vendors, plans, devices and accessories according to carrier agreements to ensure adherence. You can also manage BYOD registration and stipends if BYOD is used for some employees.
Make better business decisions. Advanced Reporting and business intelligence tools allow you to keep a watchful eye on your mobile spend and usage. Leading industry providers, like Calero, offer a powerful set of tools that allow you to dig deeper into your data and gain more visibility into your mobile environment. Armed with the right information, you can better understand the overall impact to your business and can take appropriate action.
